cleaning service

You won't have trouble locating the technique that works for you if you want to give a soiled or dirty fabric sofa a new lease on life. We assure you that it is a lot more enjoyable than trying to extract a broken key from a lock.

Whether your cover is detachable, there are several alternatives to using the washing machine, such as cleaning up dust, pet stains, oil, or even mud.

We make sure this piece covers all the information you require about how to clean a fabric sofa :

1. Regular maintenance and prevention

The first step in cleaning your fabric sofa is to make sure it is regularly maintained in the first place.

Conduct, do not hesitate to vacuum it up when you do your daily or weekly cleaning.

In the event of a stain, always take the initiative and clean up immediately. This will prevent stains from setting into the fabric, making them more challenging to remove.

Consider using a waterproofing spray to avoid any issues. Waterproofing is well known for shoes and some clothes, but less for home goods like fabric sofas.

However, it can be helpful and prevent stains from penetrating deeply for brief moments, allowing you the chance to control your favorite fabric sofa from becoming permanently stained. Or avoid a laborious cleaning process.

Because aerosols harm your health, use waterproofing cautiously and in a well-ventilated area. Under the waterproofing agent's instructions, leave on and dry for at least an hour.

Lastly, remember to read and abide by the manufacturer's directions and educate yourself about the fabric of your sofa.

You still have options if you haven't necessarily taken these steps and need to clean the fabric of your sofa.

2. Dusting a sofa’s fabric

You're in luck if dust is your only issue. While cleaning a fabric sofa, owners have the most trouble with this cleaning issue, but it is also the simplest to fix.

Take a vacuum cleaner and delicately pass it over the tight fabric after cleaning the nozzle or removing it.

But if your couch is stained, the several following techniques will work better.

3. Using shaving foam

Shaving foam is a simple, widely available, and highly affordable way to quickly clean a sofa's fabric. However, it primarily removes surface stains.

Shave the stain and then give it at least an hour to dry.

A moist sponge should remove the shaving foam and clean the fabric.

Be aware that depending on the cloth or shaving foam, this could leave a stain. Test it on a spot that is not too apparent, like the back of the sofa, to be on the safe side. It would be unfortunate to add another stain.

4. Cleaning your sofa with white vinegar

White vinegar is a terrific ally for the toughest stains and is just as accessible and economical as shaving foam. Additionally, it works wonders in removing coffee or sweat stains.

The process is easy:

  • 200 ml of water and 10 ml of white vinegar are combined.
  • Apply on the stain, then wait 10 minutes before removing.
  • Use a moist sponge to clean.
  • Repeat the procedure with a brush and wash up liquid if the stain is still visible.

5. Removing ink stains from a fabric sofa

Do your kids enjoy blending colors on your lovely fabric sofa? Do they have an artistic soul? Maybe you let your head rest on an armrest while getting your hair colored at home? We have a cleaning option for you, so don't give up.

5.a. Use white vinegar and baking soda

  • Combine baking soda and white vinegar.
  • Use on the stain
  • Keep running until bubbles appear.
  • Use a sponge or brush to scrub
  • Use a sponge and water to rinse.

5.b Use white vinegar and alcohol

  • Combine 70-degree alcohol and white vinegar in equal volumes.
  • Brush the stain to remove it.
  • Use a sponge and water to rinse.

6. Removing grease stains from a sofa

Baking soda or montmorillonite dust can be used to remove a grease or oil stain.

  • Apply on the stain
  • Leave for a few hours to absorb
  • Vacuum up any leftover dust after it has dried, then wash with water

Most of it will have been assimilated. However, fat is obstinate and tends to seep deeply into the tissue, so use caution. Applying the product right away is crucial rather than waiting for it to absorb.

7. Steam clean your fabric sofa

A steam cleaner or other specialized equipment is necessary for steam cleaning, which is another option—something not everyone always has.

Additionally, it requires some time and occasionally fails to remove heavily embedded stains. Be advised that there is a chance your sofa won't respond well to exposure to steam.

To avoid creating visual halos, testing this method first on a less prominent location is strongly advised.

Additionally, if you can't tumble dry your fabric sofa cover after steam cleaning, fully dry it.

8. Use ammonia

We opted to keep ammonia at the end of this post despite the fact that it works well to remove stains. However, ammonia is a chemical that can be toxic.

Be aware that wearing gloves and a mask is preferred, and that it's especially important to make sure the space you're in is sufficiently ventilated. Use a video baby monitor so that you can keep an eye on your kid when you're away from them in their room or the backyard.

The approach involves the same steps as those previously discussed and is as follows:

Ammonia and washing up liquid in a basin of water with a few drops each

Rub a small amount into the stain after applying, then rinse with water.

9. Machine-clean your detachable fabric cover

Each method described in this post is equally relevant if you can take off your sofa cover.

A machine wash will only enhance the final product, but remember that removing stains from fabric is not always straightforward, especially if they have had time to set and get encrusted.

Alternatively, you can use any standard home item, such as wipes, K2R, or stain remover. Just be sure to adhere to the washing and temperature recommendations provided by the manufacturer.
