7 Facts about Pests you’ll be amazed to know

Many of the insect and animal pests that we deal with on a daily basis have inferior reputations especially when they are invading your home, garden or lawn. However, there are some very interesting and remarkable facts associated with these pests that might be fascinating to know. Here are just a couple of of the fun facts about your most dreaded pests :-

1. Termites are the only social insects that do not have complete metamorphosis (like what butterflies and ants have) -

Unlike ants, who undergo an entire metamorphosis, each individual termite goes through an incomplete metamorphosis that proceeds through egg, nymph, and adult stages. Colonies are described as superorganisms because the termites form a part of a self-regulating entity: the colony itself.

2. Cockroaches can live without their heads for upto a week –

Unlike humans, cockroaches breathe though little holes found in each of their body segments, in order that they don't need their mouth or head to breathe. A headless cockroach has no mouth to drink with and can be dead from dehydration in but every week . Which brings the entire day count from the instant it loses its head to the instant it loses its life to somewhere around 7 days or less

3. Bees and wasps stings can be deadly :-

As many as 100 people dies every year because of bees and wasps stings. This proves that they can be deadly.

4. Rats destroy and contaminate large amount of food:-

Each year Rats destroy or contaminate enough food to feed 200 million people and that is some serious damage rats are doing which arises the need to control them from doing it.

5. Cockroaches can run upto 3 miles in an hour

They Can Run Up to 3 Miles in an Hour. While this might appear to be a powerful athletic ability, what it really means is that they will spread germs and bacteria throughout a home very quickly.

6. Water striders can walk easily on the surface of water

Water striders are small insects that are adapted for life on top of still water, using surface tension to their advantage so they can “walk on water.” By repelling water, the tiny water striders stand on the water's surface and therefore the captured airs allows them to float and move easily.

7. Silkworms:-

Both male and female species of Silkworm are called Silkworm moths. In fact, they are also similarly colored. Another fun fact! The female Silkworm is more significant than its male counterpart by 2 cm as their requirement for a cocoon is larger.
